England international Kieron Dyer and Welsh star Craig Bellamy have been sent home from Newcastle's Spanish training camp in disgrace.
The pair, along with England Under-21 internationals Andy Griffin and Carl Cort, have been disciplined for breaking club rules during the break near Marbella.
Details of their misdemeanours have not been released.
The club have acted swiftly, sending the offenders home and fining them, and there is little doubt that manager Bobby Robson will have had plenty to say to them.
"The four players were sent home for a breach of disciplinary rules," said a club spokesman.
"They have subsequently been fined and as far as the club is concerned, the matter is now closed."
It is not the first time 22-year-old Dyer in particular has found himself at the centre of the wrong type of headlines, having been ordered to clean up his act by Robson.
Griffin too recently attracted unwanted attention when he was involved in a training ground bust-up with French team-mate Laurent Robert, with Robson and Alan Shearer called in to help resolve the situation.
