Kenny Larkin: When the incident took place in May of 2003, Larkin was an under-21 player who had just been drafted on to Westmeath's senior panel. Returned to football as soon as his injuries permitted and will play in the Westmeath county final with his club, Castledaly, in the coming weeks. Was not a member of the county team that won the Leinster championship this summer.
James McCartan: A son of Down 1960s legend James McCartan snr, he made his senior debut in 1990 and won Ulster and All-Ireland medals in 1991 and 1994. Received All Star awards both years. Returned from a back injury to enjoy a new role as a senior player on a young team in recent seasons.
