The report on the Task Force on the Travelling Community makes 85 recommendations. Among these are:
The operation of the Housing (Traveller Accommodation) Act, 1998, should be reviewed in 2002.
The National Traveller Accommodation Consultative Committee should re-examine the recommendations in the Task Force Report on land acquisition and compulsory purchase orders to expedite accommodation plans.
The Prohibition of Incitement to Hatred Act, 1989, should be reviewed to address its shortcomings.
The Department of Education should make intercultural education a priority.
Members of the settled community should initiate activities which would generate support from both communities, while Traveller organisations should receive adequate funding to do likewise.
The Department of Health should consider hospital services outreach clinics.
Sanitary conditions on halting sites should be improved.
