In a direct message to loyalist paramilitaries, the British Prime Minister has warned they would be walking into an IRA trap if they return to violence.
Speaking on BBC's Breakfast with Frost programme following the Ulster Freedom Fighters' threat of retaliation for death caused by the IRA, Mr Major appealed to loyalists: "Don't, don't, don't ... if the loyalists were to return to violence as well, they would give the IRA the excuse they are longing for to move into greater violence and return to the days we are still trying get rid of."
