Minister for the Environment John Gormley has announced the make-up of two agencies being established to oversee the regeneration of the Moyross and Southill areas of Limerick city.
Assistant Dublin city manager Brendan Kenny was last month appointed chief executive of the two agencies and he will take up his new post on Monday.
Mr Gormley yesterday announced the members of the the two bodies, which are being set up on the recommendation of John Fitzgerald, the former Dublin city manager.
Mr Fitzgerald will chair both agencies and the list of board members includes clergy, teachers and business leaders from the Southill and Moyross communities.
Mr Fitzgerald yesterday said he was pleased that the matter had been dealt with so quickly.
"I'm glad that it has moved pretty fast. I always said that it should be possible to set up the boards by the autumn and I'm glad that it's moved even faster than that.
"I think it just reflects the urgency that has been attached to the whole project by all of the Government departments involved, but especially the Department of the Environment, who have put a lot of work into trying to make sure that it did happen as fast as it did."
Those appointed to the northside regeneration agency are: Paddy Flannery, Moyross Community Development Group; Áine Cremin, principal of Moyross national school; and Michael Tiernan, an entrepreneur who has worked with communities on both sides of the city.
Those who will serve on the southside regeneration agency are: Father Pat Hogan, parish priest of Southill; Ann Kavanagh, of the Paul Partnership Agency; and Liam McElligott, former chairman of Shannon Development and the Limerick Enterprise Development Board.
In addition, a number of individuals will be members of both agencies. These include the Limerick city manager, Tom Macken; Clare county manager Alec Fleming; Limerick county manager Ned Gleeson and Chief Supt Willie Keane.
Representatives from both the Health Service Executive and the Department of Education and Science will also be appointed to the boards.
The boards are to have their first meeting next Wednesday and they will serve until 2012.
