A male model who claims he won the Irish heat of "Manhunt International" but was disqualified because of an alleged last-minute rule change has sued the promoters for up to £30,000 damages.

Mr Igor Zaninovich Osiban (21), of Adelaide Road, Bray, Co Wicklow, is asking the Circuit Civil Court to compensate him for having been denied the £3,000 first prize and a trip to Singapore for the world final.

Ms Leonie Reynolds, counsel for Mr Osiban, who uses Zaninovich as his "catwalk" name, asked Judge Liam Devally yesterday to assess damages against Mr Ted Crean, who trades as Impact Models, Brewery Road, Blackrock, Co Dublin, and who had failed to turn up. A solicitor for Mr Crean said he had been unable to obtain any instructions from his client.

Judge Devally said that although the action was undefended he could not hear the matter in the absence of witnesses for Mr Zaninovich, who had also failed to attend. He adjourned the case.
