A 19-year-old has appeared before the courts charged with a gun murder earlier this year in which two other men were wounded but survived after running into nearby houses.
David Patchell, with an address at Rossfield Crescent, Tallaght, west Dublin, appeared before Dublin District Court on Saturday.
He was charged with the murder of Stephen O’Halloran who was shot dead outside a house in Tallaght just before midnight on Sunday, January 18th last.
The 20-year-old father of one was sitting in his car outside his mother and stepfather’s house on Kilmartin Drive, Tallaght.
David Patchell was arrested at his home in Tallaght last Tuesday morning.
He was detained under Section 50 of the Offences Against the State Act, which allows for detention without charge for up to seven days.
The accused appeared before a special sitting of Dublin District Court last Wednesday during which his period of detention was extended for a further 72 hours. He was questioned at Tallaght Garda station before being brought before the courts again on Saturday to be charged with murder.
The 19-year-old has also been charged with intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to Paul Core and Anthony Harte, the two men wounded in the January attack.
Mr Patchell was granted free legal aid. He was remanded in custody by Judge John Coughlan and will appear before Cloverhill District Court next Friday, April 25th.
A 25-year-old man who was also arrested on Tuesday for questioning about Mr O’Halloran’s murder has been released without charge.
