A 20-year-old man has become the lastest victim on the State's roads.

He died when the car he was travelling was in collision with an SUV in Knockumber near Navan, Co Meath. The crash happened at 6pm yesterday.

A 62-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Donegal yesterday.

The man was travelling alone on the Letterkenny-Ballybofey road when his car left the road at Tircallen, Stranorlar, went down an embankment and struck a bridge. He was pronounced dead at the scene. It is the third recent road fatality in the area.

Last Sunday week, John Barr died in a motorcycle crash and two days later Ellen Doherty (78) died from injuries she sustained while laying flowers at the scene.

Also yesterday, a woman in her 50s was killed in Kilbeggan, Co Westmeath, when her car collided with a truck. She was alone in the car. The driver of the truck was uninjured.

The latest fatalities bring the total so far this year to 188. The victims of yesterday's crashes have not yet been named.
