Gardaí have arrested a man (21) over an burglary in Dublin during which threats were allegedly made to stab a two-year-old child.
One of the alleged burglars was taken to hospital following the break-in at a house in Templeview Row, Clare Hall, Dublin 13.
Two men armed with a hammer and a knife broke into the house at about 4am on Wednesday. One of the male occupants was downstairs at the time and was threatened by the men.
The intruders went upstairs where a young woman was tending her two-year-old child. There were two other children in the house at the time.
The intruders demanded money and electrical goods, allegedly saying they would attack the baby if their demands were not met.
The male occupant of the house, a Vietnamese national in his 30s, then tackled the man armed with the knife. During the scuffle, the intruder sustained wounds to his head and upper body.
The row spilled over into the kitchen of a neighbouring house through an internal door joining the properties. When gardaí arrived, they found one of the intruders lying wounded on the kitchen floor. He was taken to Beaumont hospital.
The other intruder had fled the scene.
A man was detained in the Beaumont area today and was taken to Coolock Garda Station for questioning.
