Gardaí in Donegal are appealing for witnesses after a man was allegedly attacked with slash hooks at the weekend.
The man (29) was apparently attacked at around 12.25pm on Sunday afternoon just outside Letterkenny. He is in a critical but stable condition at Letterkenny General Hospital, gardaí said.
The man has injuries to his body and leg but is believed not to have suffered head injuries. No one else was treated for injuries following the incident.
One local garda said the incident appeared to be linked to a feud between members of two families in the area.
Gardaí are following what they describe as a "definite line of inquiry".
Local gardaí said they wished to thank any witnesses who have so far come forward, but they have asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward in confidence to gardaí at Letterkenny.
