Man (30) charged over Kerry murders

A man (30) was tonight charged with the double murder of a farmer and his son at their home in Co Kerry last week.

A man (30) was tonight charged with the double murder of a farmer and his son at their home in Co Kerry last week.

Thomas Barrett was brought before a special court accused of killing Michael Hanrahan (60) and his 27-year-old son, Denis.

Their bodies were found in their rural Co Kerry home on Thursday with eight shotgun cartridges scattered on the floor beside them. Both men died from gunshot wounds.

Mr Barrett, of Causeway, Co Kerry, was arrested in the nearby town of Tralee on Saturday night for the unlawful possession of firearms.

A gun which was also recovered was tested to see if it was linked to the shotgun cartridges found in the Hanrahan home in Moyvane.

He appeared before Listowel District Court this evening and was remanded in custody.
