A 31-YEAR-old man has been charged with murdering his fiancee at a house the couple had moved into last week.

Gerard O’Hara was charged yesterday with the murder of part-time model and Argos supervisor Lisa Doyle (24) at their address at High Street, Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Ms Doyle’s body was discovered by gardaí in an upstairs bedroom of the rented house shortly after 6am on Sunday.

Det Garda Brendan Murphy of Carlow Garda station gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution at Castlecomer District Court yesterday.

Det Murphy said Mr O’Hara replied “nothing to say” when the charge was put to him at Carlow Garda station yesterday.

Mr O’Hara, wearing a grey fleece, jeans and trainers arrived at the court in an unmarked car and was brought into the court house by two detectives.

He sat beside his father and mother who held on to his arm throughout the short hearing.

John O’Sullivan, solicitor for Mr O’Hara, told Judge William Hamill his client was currently unemployed and made an application for legal aid.

Det Murphy made an application for Mr O’Hara to be remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison for one week.

Mr O’Sullivan asked that Mr O’Hara receive a psychiatric assessment as soon as possible.

Judge Hamill granted Mr O’Hara legal aid and requested that a medical and psychiatric report be carried out on the accused.

Judge Hamill remanded Mr O’Hara in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court, on September 28th.
