A 43-year-old Brazilian was yesterday remanded in custody after he was charged following the death of another Brazilian who was found with stab wounds in a flat at Charleville in north Cork last week.

Father-of-two Jose Domingos appeared at a special sitting of Bruff District Court in Co Limerick, where he was charged with assault causing serious harm to 47-year-old Alberto Do Prado Oliveira, a father of three, at 67 Main Street, Charleville, on September 21st last.

Mr Domingos, a meat factory employee with an address at Old Limerick Road, Charleville, was also charged with producing a knife capable of causing serious injury in a manner likely to intimidate during a fight on the same occasion.

Judge Mary O'Halloran remanded the accused in custody to Limerick Prison to appear at Rathkeale District Court, sitting in Newcastlewest, on Thursday.
