A 60-year-old man was stabbed to death in Tallaght last night after two men armed with a knife and a hammer burst into his house.
The two men arrived at the house on Tymonville Road at about 10.05pm and assaulted a woman, the man's partner, who answered the door before attacking the man in the kitchen.
Gardaí say the man named later as Michael Gallagher originally of Mohill Co Leitrim was stabbed several times.
The attackers fled toward Tymon North Road. A Garda spokesman said it was unknown if they got away on foot or in a car.

The injured man was taken to Tallaght Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly before 11pm.
Detectives have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
