A man in his 70s died in a fire at a holiday caravan campsite in north Co Dublin yesterday morning.
The 74-year-old man, who was the owner of the caravan site at Borough Road, Portrane, was killed when fire engulfed the mobile home in which he was living at about 3 a.m. The fire destroyed the home, as well as a second mobile home and adjacent office.
The cause has not yet been established.
Meanwhile, the condition of six year-old Kelsey Maher remains critical at Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin. She is in intensive care following a fire at a flat in Dublin's Christchurch area on Monday morning.
Her three year-old brother, Clayton, died yesterday afternoon of injuries he sustained in the fire.
His twin sister, Kim, is in a stable condition in Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin.
Dublin City Council has been called on to inspect each of its flats complexes to ensure they comply with all fire regulations. Mr Tom Crilly of the Workers Party made the call saying the lack of a fire escape at the complex in which Clayton Maher died delayed the fire brigade's access to the top-floor flat.
"How many more tragedies will there have to be before fire safety becomes a reality rather than an aspiration?" he asked.
