An 82-year-old man has died following an aggravated burglary at his home in Lisburn, Co Antrim

An 82-year-old man has died following an aggravated burglary at his home in Lisburn, Co Antrim. Neighbours had reported seeing a Southern-registered car in the area at the time.

At 10 a.m. yesterday two men called to the rear door of Manor Drive in Lisburn. A 78-year-old woman answered the door and was pushed inside. The woman and her husband, Mr George Foster, were assaulted and detained in an upstairs room. The men who were armed with a gun searched the house and demanded money and the location of the safe.

Mr Foster escaped from the house and was attempting to ring police from a neighbour's house when he collapsed and died. The two men are described as of average height, with dark hair.

RUC Chief Insp Ken Hennigan described the raiders as "sick people". He said it was "despicable" of them to prey on elderly people.
