Man (97) held at knife point as home burgled

An elderly man was held at knife point in his home in Balbriggan yesterday evening as his house was burgled.

An elderly man was held at knife point in his home in Balbriggan yesterday evening as his house was burgled.

The 97-year-old man was alone in his home on Church Street at about 5.15 p.m. when an intruder broke in through the rear of the house.

The man was pushed, shoved and put under severe pressure before being robbed of €30 from his pocket. He did not require hospital treatment but was left in severe shock.

Gardaí in Balbriggan are investigating the attack. The thief is described as a young man who wore a multi-coloured cap. It's believed he knocked on the front door shortly before going around to the back of the house.
