A 32-year-old man appeared in court this morning over an attack on a Dublin Bus driver at the weekend.

A 32-year-old man appeared in court this morning over an attack on a Dublin Bus driver at the weekend.

The case was adjourned for a Section 2 bail hearing at 2pm this afternoon.

The man, Mark Dwyer, with an address at Dolphin House in Dublin is accused of hijacking the 56A bus in the Liberties area of the city between 9.30pm and 10pm on Saturday night.

The bus driver, a Chinese national who had been working for Dublin Bus for just 18 months, was assaulted and left with broken bones in his hand and severe bruising following the attack.

The bus, which runs from the Ringsend garage to Tallaght was travelling outbound on Cork Street when the assault took place.

The attacker was overpowered by passengers and the bus was forced to a halt.
