A paranoid schizophrenic appeared in court today accused of stabbing a man to death in a Belfast street last month.
Mr Robert John Flanagan (24), was charged with murdering father-of-two Richard Caldwell in Belfast.
Mr Caldwell (29), was knifed when a row flared on the Antrim Road in north Belfast on May 30th. He died later in hospital.
Mr Flanagan, of New Lodge Road in city, was arrested following police appeals for the suspect to hand himself in.
At Belfast Magistrate's Court today, the unemployed man was also accused of possessing a knife.
Another man understood to be a close relative, has already been charged with unlawful fighting and making an affray.
Although Mr Flanagan made no reply when charged, a detective sergeant said he could connect him with the offences.
During cross examination the officer stressed a mental health professional had been present throughout police interviews.
Defence solicitor Mr Joe McVeigh then asked if he was aware Mr Flanagan suffered from paranoid schizophrenia. The officer replied that a mental condition had been highlighted.
Mr Flanagan was remanded in custody until July 8th.
