A man is expected to be charged today in connection with a fatal stabbing at Raheny in Dublin on Saturday.
A 61-year-old man died from injuries sustained in an incident at a house in Edenmore Drive. A 33-year-old man was arrested at the house on Saturday and was being detained at Coolock Garda station last night.
The scene was preserved for technical examination while the body of the deceased remained there yesterday, pending examination by the State Pathologist. The deceased had not yet been named last night.
Meanwhile, a man was in a stable condition at Tallaght Hospital in Dublin last night after being stabbed several times in an assault on Saturday night.
Gardaí investigating the incident arrested three men in Tallaght yesterday afternoon. The stabbing took place in Virginia Heights, Tallaght, at approximately 11.20pm on Saturday night
In a separate incident in the Tallaght area, a group of four Polish people were attacked by a gang of youths. The victims of the attack attempted to leave the area but were attacked again at Maplewood Road. One of the Poles, a 30-year-old man, was stabbed. He was taken to Tallaght Hospital by ambulance.
Subsequent Garda investigations led to the arrest of three men yesterday afternoon. All are from the Tallaght area and are aged 17, 18 and 22. They were being detained at Tallaght Garda station last night.
Detectives in Waterford were continuing to question a 46-year-old man last night about an incident in which another man fell from a first-floor flat in the city and suffered severe head and other injuries. The incident happened at a house on William Street near the city centre at around 2.30am yesterday, when a man in his 30s was found lying on the pavement with serious head injuries.
He was rushed to Waterford Regional Hospital, where it became apparent he suffered injuries which were not consistent with a fall. Gardaí later arrested a man on suspicion of assault.
