Police investigating the murder of a man who was beaten to death in west Belfast last November made an arrest today.

Police investigating the murder of a man who was beaten to death in west Belfast last November made an arrest today.

Thomas Johnston, 24, was beaten to death in North Boundary Street, in the loyalist Shankill area in November last year.

A 34-year-old man from south Belfast was arrested today in connection with his death.

A police spokesman said a number of items were seized during a search of the house where the man was arrested.

Mr Johnston was left with critical head injuries and was put on a life support machine after being set upon near his Boundary Way home on November 10th. He died in Belfast's Mater Hospital the following day.

Mr Johnston was walking towards the Shankill estate when a silver BMW car pulled up alongside him.

A passenger got out of the car and started hitting Mr Johnston around the head with an unidentified blunt weapon.

A woman walking with Mr Johnston was also hit across the face by the attacker.
