Police in Canada said today they had arrested a man on terrorist charges related to alleged offences in London.
Officers detained Mr Mohammad Momin Khawaja (29) for allegedly "enhancing the ability of a terrorist group to facilitate or carry out a terrorist activity".
The force declined to comment on whether the arrest was linked to the detention of eight men under the Terrorism Act in London yesterday.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said in a statement that Khawaja, from Ottawa, had been arrested under laws which "make it an offence to knowingly participate in or contribute to the activities of a terrorist group and to knowingly facilitate a terrorist activity".
The offences allegedly took place "on or between November 10th, 2003 and March 29th, 2004 at or near the City of Ottawa, in the Province of Ontario, and at or near the City of London, England".
The charge sheet said he "did knowingly participate in or contribute to, directly or indirectly, an activity of a terrorist group, for the purpose of enhancing the ability of a terrorist group to facilitate or carry out a terrorist activity".
Mr Khawaja was arrested on Monday and was remanded in custody until Friday, April 2nd, when he is due to appear before a court.
