A man was arrested yesterday evening in connection with the investigation into the murder of Mr Paul Waters, whose body was discovered beside a car-park last Tuesday, writes Fiona Tyrrell.

The 21-year-old man was arrested by gardaí at around 5.30 p.m. in Sligo town. He is believed to be a local. He is being questioned in connection with the death and can be held for 12 hours under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act, according to a spokesman for the gardaí.

Gardaí launched a murder investigation yesterday morning after a post mortem revealed that Mr Waters died from multiple blows to the head. The body was discovered in a private courtyard of the Stephen Street car-park at 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday by a cleaner.

Gardaí in Sligo were last night making door-to-door inquiries and reviewing CCTV footage as part of their investigations.
