GARDAI yesterday made an arrest in connection with the murder in 1992 of Co Louth farmer, Mr Colm Duffy, whose body was found in his car in the yard of his Collon home. It is believed he had been shot in the head at close range.
The man, from Co Louth is being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Navan Garda Station, Co Meath.
He was arrested at his home at 8 a.m. yesterday and is being questioned about serious crime, including Mr Duffy's murder.
Gardai will this morning decide whether to extend the detention period allowed under Section 30 by a further 24 hours.
Mr Duffy (38), was last seen alive on November 30th, 1992. His body was found in his car in the yard of his home on the Kells Road in Collon on December 4th, 1992.
While it was reported that he had been shot by the IRA in his native Carrickmacross a number of years ago for what was described as anti-social behaviour, gardai do not believe there was any paramilitary link to his death.
It is believed that it was after the incident with the IRA that Mr Duffy moved to Collon where an uncle had left him a farm.
Yesterday, Supt Eamonn Courtney, Navan, confirmed that the man being detained was arrested in connection with the murder but said he was also being questioned about other matters.
