A man was arrested today in Britain for questioning about the loyalist murder of Sean Brown in Co Derry eight years ago.

The 44-year-old, who is originally from Northern Ireland, was detained at a house at Nuneaton in Warwickshire. A number of other properties were also searched.

The man is being questioned about the murder of Mr Brown (61), who was abducted and shot dead after leaving his local GAA club at Bellaghy in 1997. His body was later found with his burnt-out car near Randalstown.

Today's arrest is part of a major new inquiry into the murder by the PSNI and followed a highly critical report of the original investigation by the Police Ombudsman Nuala O`Loan.
