A 23-year-old man was arrested today by PSNI officers investigating the death of Monaghan teenager Jason McGovern.
Detectives from PSNI’s serious crime branch held the man in the Omagh area this afternoon and he is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
Earlier today Mr McGovern's funeral took place in Co Monaghan. He died after an assault on New Year’s Eve.
The funeral Mass was held at St Patrick’s Church, Corracrin, Co Monaghan with burial afterwards at the adjoining cemetery. He is survived by his parents Seamus and Kathleen McGovern.
Yesterday the PSNI has made a fresh appeal to help catch whoever attacked a teenager who died on New Year’s Eve.
Mr McGovern (19), Tydavnet, Co Monaghan was found dead last Monday after two assaults in Omagh.
Five men and a teenager have been charged with affray in connection with the incident.
Mr McGovern travelled to Omagh with a group of friends but became separated from them. He was punched outside a nightclub after being involved in a verbal exchange with a group of men.
He later made his way to Emyvale, Co Monaghan, where he had been staying with friends, and was found dead at midday on New Year’s Eve.
