Gardaí today arrested a man in connection with the murder of a Chinese kitchen porter in Dublin.
The man, who is in his 20s, was picked up in the city at 10.30am and taken to Kilmainham Garda station.
He is being questioned about the stabbing of the 23-year old Chinese man in Rialto last Wednesday.
The man was stabbed in the chest when he confronted a burglar who had broken into his house in Reuben Avenue at about 5am.
He was taken to St James's Hospital but died about half an hour later.
A Garda spokesman said the name of the victim had not been released because he had not yet been formally identified by his family in China.
The man had been in the country for two and a half years and worked as a kitchen porter in St Stephen's Green.
He was sharing the two-storey terraced house house with five other Chinese nationals. He was awakened when the burglar entered the bedroom of a woman in the house, who started to scream for help. When he came to her aid, he was stabbed once in the chest in the ensuing confrontation.
The attacker has been described as between 23 and 25, 5ft 9ins tall, with dark hair and a blonde fringe. He was wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans.
Gardaí will tonight decide whether the man in custody should be charged or whether he will be released.
