A Co Limerick father-of-five barricaded himself into his home yesterday after receiving an eviction notice.
Séamus Sherlock blocked the main driveway to his home in Feohanagh after he was served with an eviction notice on behalf of Bank of Scotland because of outstanding mortgage repayments. He also piled 40 bales of hay wrapped in black plastic behind the main gate to his property.
Mr Sherlock, who chained himself to the railings outside ESB headquarters in Dublin in 2010 after his power was cut off, claims he was surprised to receive the eviction notice as he had been trying to reach a settlement with the bank.
He would not reveal exactly how much was outstanding on his mortgage, but said it was a “couple of hundred-thousand euro”.
Mr Sherlock, who ran as an Independent Life after Debt candidate in Co Limerick in the last general election, has been unemployed for the past two years.
Bank of Scotland said it did not comment on its banking relationship with customers.
