A man was carrying a samurai sword during a mass confrontation involving drug dealers and local people in Dublin city centre, a court heard yesterday. Mr Jonathan Flood (28), of St Mary's Mansions, and Mr Gerard Moran (35), of Rory O'Connor House, both of Dublin, appeared in the District Court charged with having offensive weapons at Hardwicke Street on March 15th.
Garda Eugene O'Leary said a large crowd had gathered in the flats complex that afternoon following on-going trouble with drug dealers in the area.
He said Mr Moran had a samurai sword and a knuckleduster which he tried to conceal and Mr Flood had a taped table leg.
Judge J. P. McDonnell was told investigations into the incident were continuing and he remanded both men on bail to appear on May 27th for directions from the DPP.
