A man has appeared in court charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old man in Carlow town early this morning, a garda spokesman said.

The man, Mr John Dillon of 7 Granby Row, was remanded in custody at a special sitting of Carlow District Court this evening and is to re-appear in a Dublin district court on Wednesday.

Mr Warren Slater, was found by gardaí suffering from serious stab injuries after they were called to a bedsit on Granby Row in the town at about 3.40 a.m. Mr Slater died at the scene.

The Deputy State Pathologist, Ms Marie Cassidy, arrived at the scene this morning and carried out a preliminary examination. Mr Slater’s body was then removed to Naas General Hospital where a post mortem examinationwas to be conducted.
