Police in the Netherlands have confirmed they have arrested and charged a man in connection with the fatal stabbing of an Irishman in Amsterdam last September.
Speaking to ireland.comthis afternoon, a spokesman said that a 27-year-old Dutch national had been charged with the murder of Damien Mooney (26) from Cloneen in Co Kilkenny.
"He has appeared before a Judge who has remanded him in custody and he now awaits trial," he said.
The man was captured on CCTV as he retreated from the murder scene and, following a screening of the footage on a Dutch crime-appeal programme, he surrendered himself to police.
"There was a huge public response to the television appeal in this case," added the spokesman.
Mr Mooney was killed as he walked home alone after a night out with workmates. It is reported that he was involved in an argument after which a fight ensued before he suffered the fatal knife-wound.
He had been working at an Irish bar in the city for six months.
