A man appeared before Judge Terence Finn at Waterford District Court yesterday charged with making a hoax phone call which caused a bomb scare in the city. Brian Douglas (21), with an address at Green Street, Waterford, was charged with making a hoax phone call to Waterford Garda station on November 21st last saying a bomb was about to explode at the city's courthouse.

Insp Tom Duggan told the court the incident had resulted in a court hearing having to be abandoned. The defendant also appeared on charges of burglary and was sentenced to a total of 18 months in prison.
