Man charged over Antrim stabbing

A 33-year-old man was charged with attempted murder tonight following a weekend stabbing in Co Antrim.

A 33-year-old man was charged with attempted murder tonight following a weekend stabbing in Co Antrim.

He was detained earlier today following the knifing of a 25-year-old man in a house at Dunloy Gardens in Newtownabbey on Saturday evening.

Police said the accused was due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court this morning.

The victim of the stabbing was admitted to hospital for treatment to injuries which were not thought to be life threatening.

A 16-year-old was arrested in relation to the same incident and was being questioned about an assault on police and disorderly behaviour. The PSNI appealed for any witnesses to the incident at around 5.30pm to contact them.

Meanwhile a 34-year-old man was being treated in hospital after being attacked by a gang, one believed to have been armed with a hammer.

He was set upon in the Alexandra Park area of north Belfast by three men on Saturday afternoon, police said.

The victim suffered head and face injuries which are not life threatening, said a spokeswoman.
