The man charged over the death of Kilrush woman Ann Walsh (23) is in urgent need of psychiatric attention, a district court was told today.
Solicitor Tara Godfrey told the court in Ennis that, in her opinion, the psychiatric condition of Raymond Donavan (23) is much worse than the last time a psychiatric report was carried out on him in January 2004.
Mr Donavan of 1, New Houses, Cooraclare, was making his third court appearance on a charged of intentionally or recklessly causing harm to Ms Walsh at Toler Street, Kilrush, on the 24th of August contrary to Section 4 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.
Ms Walsh's body was found in the grounds of St Senan's Church, Toler Street, Kilrush, Co Clare on August 24th.
Ms Godfrey told Judge Joseph Mangan that despite repeated assurances from the authorities at Limerick prison that Mr Donavan would receive psychiatric intervention, it has not happened.
Judge Mangan told the court: "What Ms Godrey has said speaks for itself and it is open to her to go to the High Court or to the Minister for Justice on the issue."
Mr Donovan was further remanded in custody to reappear before Ennis District Court next Friday, the September 9th.
