A 38-year-old man has been remanded in custody after he was charged in connection with a stabbing attack which has left a 30 year old man in critical condition in hospital.
The man was brought before a special sitting of Cork District Court this morning where he was charged in connection with a stabbing attack on David Hamilton.
He is charged with assault causing serious harm to Mr Hamilton at Kerryhall Road, Fairhill on May 4th contrary to Section 4 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.
Det Garda Mick Dolan gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution and told the court that he replied “Sorry, I done it, like” when the charge was put to him after caution.
Insp John Deasy said that gardai were seeking a remand in custody and defence solicitor, Tadhg O Donnabhain said that his client was consenting to be remanded in custody.
Judge Olann Kelleher granted the garda application and remanded him in custody to appear again at Cork District Court again on next Thursday, May 10th.
He also granted a defence application for free legal aid after hearing that Mr Jackson – who didn’t speak during the brief hearing – is unemployed and in receipt of social welfare payments.
The injured party in the case, Mr Hamilton, who is believed to be from Wexford but living in Ballincollig in Co Cork, underwent emergency surgery at Cork University Hospital over the weekend
He had been rushed to the hospital by ambulance after being found unconscious with a stab wound to the chest on the road at Kerryhall Road in Fairhill on Cork’s northside at around 2.30pm on Friday.
