A man (23) has been charged in connection with a fatal assault on a 25-year-old father of two who was found with stab wounds in Passage West in Co Cork.
Tony Leahy was brought before a special sitting of Cork District Court earlier today and charged with assault causing serious harm to Jonathan Kenneally Daly.
The State alleges that mR Leahy, with an address at Sirius House, Cork Road, Passage West assaulted Mr Kenneally Daly and caused him serious harm at Cork Road, Passage West on January19th.
Garda Martin Lawton gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution and told the court that Mr Leahy made no reply when the single charge was put to him after caution.
Insp Billy Duane said that gardai were seeking a remand in custody but Mr Leahy's solicitor, Frank Buttimer said that his client was seeking bail on the single charge.
Mr Buttimer said he believed it was an appropriate case for bail with terms and conditions and his client was willing to abide by whatever conditions the court imposed.
However following an outline of Garda objections from Det Sgt Simon Grace, Judge David Riordan refused bail and remanded Mr Leahy in custody to appear again at Cork District Court on Monday.
