Man charged over fatal Fermoy shooting

A man has appeared in court in connection with the murder of a man (60) in Fermoy yesterday.

A man has appeared in court in connection with the murder of a man (60) in Fermoy yesterday.

John Mahon, a self-employed painting contractor from St Bernard's Place, Fermoy, was killed by a gunman who shot him several times at St Bernard's Place early on February 12th.

John Collins (50) - a former soldier with an address at Francis Street, Fermoy - was arrested yesterday afternoon.

He was brought before a special sitting of Mitchelstown District Court last night and charged with murder.

Insp Pat McCarthy applied to have the accused remanded in custody. Judge Michael Patwell remanded Mr Collins to appear at Midleton District Court on Thursday.
