An 18-year-old man appeared in court today where he was charged in connection with the murder of a pensioner in Limerick earlier this month.
James Boyce (71) was found dead at his home at St Munchin's Street in St Mary's Park estate in Limerick city on March 8th. A former Army veteran, Mr Boyce had been beaten to death in his hallway before he was locked in his upstairs bedroom.
Five people were arrested by gardaí yesterday in connection with the investigation.
Four of those arrested have since been released. The man charged today appeared before Limerick District Court this afternoon where he was remanded.
Mr Boyce, who served with distinction as part of the UN forces in the Congo in 1961, was found after meals-on-wheels staff entered his home when he failed to answer the door and neighbours had become concerned.
He had received a UN medal for his military service after surviving an attack on a platoon of Irish soldiers while he was in the Congo.
