A 20-year-old man was remanded in custody with consent to bail when he appeared before Galway District Court yesterday in connection with a stabbing incident in the city last weekend.

Mr Christopher King, of no fixed abode, and formerly of Glenbaun, Ballybane, Galway, is charged with assaulting Mr Kenneth Keady at 208 Castle Park, Headford Road, Galway, on October 9th, causing him harm, contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 2002.

Garda Gerry Carroll, who said the victim was in a critical condition in hospital, told the court he arrested the accused at a house in Castle Park on October 9th.

Insp Pat McHugh asked to have the accused remanded in custody with consent to bail with an independent surety of €6,000, one-third of which would have to be lodged in cash in court.
