A MAN has been charged in connection with an armed robbery at a Galway hotel on Friday morning.

A MAN has been charged in connection with an armed robbery at a Galway hotel on Friday morning.

David Vallot (27), with an address at Altan Apartments, Western Distributor Road, Galway, appeared before a special sitting of Galway District Court on Saturday morning.

Mr Vallot, unemployed and a father of one, was remanded in custody and will appear before Harristown District Court on Friday.

He is charged with robbing €1,768.77 from Frank Doherty at the Clayton Hotel, and is also charged with having an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Det Garda John Moloney gave evidence of arresting Mr Vallot at his home in Galway on Friday.

Det Garda Moloney said that Mr Vallot has resided in Galway for the past seven to nine years, and prior to that lived in Kilrush, Co Clare, having been born in Limerick.

Bail was opposed with the court being told that Mr Vallot could face up to 10 years in jail if he is convicted.

Mr Vallot, who was represented by solicitor Adrian McGlynn, was granted free legal aid and will appear in Harristown District Court.
