A south Tipperary man has been charged with the attempted murder of a 10-year-old girl at a sitting of the Clonmel District Court.

The 18-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged yesterday with attempting to murder the girl in a field in Clonmel on November 10th.

The accused was previously before the courts in relation to the same alleged incident. He is facing charges of attempted sexual assault, assault causing harm and false imprisonment.

Following a direction from the Director of Public Prosecutions, the man was charged with trying to kill the girl. An application by the DPP, made by Supt Dick Burke, to have the charge of false imprisonment amended to intentional false imprisonment, was granted by Judge David Riordan.
