A man appeared in court last night charged with falsely imprisoning a middle-aged woman at her home.
John Joyce (50), of no fixed abode, but with a previous address at Navan Road, Castleknock, Dublin 15, appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court.
Mr Joyce was also charged with stealing cash and jewellery (two rings) worth €1,241, at the home of Catherine O’Meara at, Sandylane, Boher, Co Limerick, on October 11th.
It’s believed Ms O’Meara was tied up for about 40 minutes during the ordeal, which began at 6pm on Thursday last. Det Garda Gary Laide, Roxboro Road Garda station, told the court, he arrested Mr Joyce at 5.58pm on Saturday, October 13th.
Sgt Oliver Kennedy, Henry Street Garda station, applied to the court to have the accused remanded in custody. Solicitor Muiris Gavin said he was reserving Mr Joyce’s position on bail.
Judge Aeneas McCarthy granted free legal aid to Mr Joyce.
Judge McCarthy remanded him in custody to appear in court again on Tuesday, October 16th.
