A MAN has been remanded in custody charged with the killing of a young Brazilian woman earlier this week in Roscommon.

Amilton Leonel de Olivera (36), with an address at Lanesborough Street, Roscommon, appeared yesterday at Harristown District Court in Co Roscommon, charged with the manslaughter of Kezia Gomes Rosa on Tuesday.

Supt Seán Ward said he was seeking a remand to Harristown Court on August 29th. The court was told the application was made with the consent of the accused.

The court heard that when Mr de Olivera consulted his solicitor he was in a “quite distressed state” and there were concerns for his well-being. Judge Conal Gibbons acceded to a defence application to recommend to the governor of Castlerea Prison that the accused receive medical attention. The judge remanded him in custody to appear at Harristown District Court on August 29th.
