Man charged with theft from phones

A Dublin man will appear in court today in connection with the theft of over £60,000 from public telephones.

A Dublin man will appear in court today in connection with the theft of over £60,000 from public telephones.

The man, from Artane, was arrested on Saturday morning on the north side of the city. He was charged with stealing money from payphones and damaging them in the process.

The arrest followed a Garda investigation into the theft of money from payphones throughout Munster and Leinster.

More than 100 phones were broken into in Munster and Leinster in the last three months, causing more than £100,000 worth of damage.

The man was detained at Lucan Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and will appear at Kilmainham District Court today.
