A man charged with the murder of a woman whose body was found naked and wrapped in a blanket in Dublin city centre last week, will appear in court again on Friday.
John O'Neill (55), of Mercer House flats, Mercer Street, Dublin 2, was charged on Saturday with murdering Rosemary Dowling (49), of Home Villas, Donnybrook, Dublin, at a sitting of Dublin District Court on Saturday.
Ms Dowling's body was found last Tuesday morning by young people leaving nightclubs at about 4am. The mother of two had owned a record and second-hand bookshop, Star CDs, on Aungier Street, yards away from where her body was found.
Gardaí had some difficulty establishing Ms Dowling's identity though a breakthrough emerged when suspicion arose after her shop remained closed on four consecutive days.
Det Sgt Michael Fitzgerald of Harcourt Terrace told the court on Saturday that when charged Mr O'Neill had nothing to say. No application for bail was made and free legal aid was granted.
Mr O'Neill had presented himself at Harcourt Terrace Garda station on Friday. He was held overnight.
He has been remanded to Clover Hill Prison and will appear in Clover Hill courthouse on Friday.
