A serious assault Dublin city centre last weekend which left a man in his thirties in a critical condition is being investigated by gardai.

The assault took place at approximately 10.30pm on Saturday at the side of City Hall on Castle Street.

Gardaí at Pearse Street Garda Station want to speak with a number of people who were in the area of Castle Street, Dame Street and Lord Edward Street at the time.

In particular gardai are keen to speak to a group of people in a red Toyota taxi and a young couple in a silver Avensis taxi.
