Man critically injured in M6 crash

A man is in critical condition in hospital after being struck by a lorry on the motorway near Kilbeggan in Co Westmeath.

A man is in critical condition in hospital after being struck by a lorry on the motorway near Kilbeggan in Co Westmeath.

Gardaí have sealed off the eastbound section of the M6 motorway between Tyrrellspass and Kilbeggan following the incident.

The injured man is understood to have been pushing a broken-down car with another man shortly before 3pm when the crash took place. The second man escaped injury.

An ambulance took the injured man to the Midland Regional Hospital at Tullamore where his condition is described as critical.

Earlier today, motorway lanes on the M7 at Ballybrittas, Co Laois and near Monasterevin in Co Kildare were closed due to separate incidents.
