A jury at the Central Criminal Court was told that a Kerry man accused of raping a teenager in a pub yard denied to gardai that any sexual activity happened between them.

Prosecuting counsel, Mr Edward Comyn SC, told the jury the accused man claimed he had only engaged in kissing and cuddling with the girl. Mr Comyn said he claimed to gardai he was very drunk on the occasion and would have been incapable of having sex with her as alleged. Both parties knew each other.

The 24-year-old man denies three charges of rape, oral rape and unlawful carnal knowledge of the same female who was over 15 and under 17 at the time of the alleged offences on October 28th, 1997.
