A man collapsed and died just over an hour after being seen by a doctor, a Medical Council fitness-to-practise inquiry has heard.
Dr Sandor Endredi, who qualified in Hungary in 1977, should have sent Anthony Geraghty for further tests and should have referred him to a hospital instead of discharging him, an expert witness told the inquiry.
Dr Endredi diagnosed Mr Geraghty (32) with an upper airway infection, obesity, a fast heartbeat and alcohol withdrawal but he should have recognised that he might have heart problems, said Colin Bradley, professor of general practice at University College Cork.
This was because Mr Geraghty had previously taken beta-blockers, which are used for treating heart problems.
