Gardai in Co Galway are investigating the death of a 70-year-old man who died from burns, apparently after falling into an open fire at his home at the weekend. The man's body was found early yesterday in the sitting room fireplace of his home near Newbridge, Ballinasloe.
Gardai said foul play was not suspected and that the fire had been confined to the grate and had not spread to the house. They confirmed the man died from burns but had yet to establish a time of death.
The alarm had been raised by the man's 73-year-old brother, who also lived in the house.
